Epilcare allows people with epilepsy to get immediate care and assistance when they have a seizure so they can keep their autonomy.

PROBLEM
Epilepsy is a disorder that requires delicate management, where small changes in the daily lives of people who suffer from it can trigger seizure events at the most unexpected moments. When this happens, in many cases these people are unable to ask for help in time or effectively from their loved ones or anyone else around them before the seizure begins.

GOALS

Allow people with epilepsy to receive timely care and assistance when they have a seizure.

Prioritize user-friendly interfaces and real time update of the emergency assistance protocol, keeping caregivers and bystanders informed and reassured.

Allow monitoring of factors associated with epilepsy, as well as adherence to treatment.

Automatically alerts caregivers or designated people when the user has a seizure, either through the use of a smartwatch's sensors and a specific detection algorithm in the cases where the user doesn’t feel the seizure coming, or through manual activation by the user before the seizure occurs. If the alert is activated, after 5 seconds an alarm will sound to alert people in the surrounding area and a notification will automatically be sent to a designated contact so they are aware of the seizure episode.

Seizure Alert

During a seizure, Epilcare can provide a first aid assistance guide for the nearby bystanders to follow. A series of animations will appear once the QR code is scanned. Additionally, a timer will be activated indicating when it is necessary to contact additional help.

First Aid Protocol

Two essential aspects in managing epilepsy are medication adherence and keeping track of changes in symptoms. Therefore, integrating a digital log into Epilcare allows its users to understand their illness a little better and know how to respond according to their individual needs.
